Participating in the Start! Heart Walk is very near and dear to my heart. I have lost several family members to heart disease. Twenty-one years ago, my 47-year-old husband died suddenly of a heart attack with no prior indication of any heart problems. It was quite a shock to me and our four children. Since that time, his father has died of a heart attack and his younger brother has survived five heart attacks and required by-pass surgery.
This past July, my present husband complained to me of indigestion. I immediately drove him to the hospital as we live only five minutes away so in my case it was faster than calling the EMS. An expert team of doctors & assistants saved his life by doing a heart catheter and inserting a stent into one of his clogged arteries. He is now feeling well and participating in the cardiac rehab program at the hospital.
My family and I are very grateful for all that the American Heart Association does to educate everyone about how important it is to prevent heart disease through proper diet and exercise. In addition, we are thankful that they continue to teach us how to recognize and react to a possible problem so that we can save lives should a heart attack occur.
Please participate in this year’s Start! Heart Walk on Saturday, Sept. 18, by walking and/or donating to the American Heart Association. Help save lives!
