Bishop Dwenger places in top 6 finalsts

The DeKalb High School Show Choir Ivitational was this evening with more than 20 choirs participating in various divisions. Bishop Dwenger, Carroll, Northrop, and other schools from the area placed in the group of 6 finalists who will compete for the top trophies and awards. Three soloists from the day's individual competitions will also compete for top honors in the finale "Night Show."

Some schools include the "show choir" as part of their schools class schedule, and require show choir participants to take a manditory choir class. Bishop Dwenger allows any student to participate, without the class requirement, and only practices 3 days per week after school.

Unlike varsity sports, students in music programs, like show choir must raise quite a bit of money to participate in these programs. Some choir members pay over $1000 per person for costuming and fees. It is all worth it because students learn to perform as an ensemble, while learning team work, and students create life long friendships.

As I watched the student representatives accept their awards, some were hiding their overwhelming emotions and pride with quivering chins, but none were brighter than the lipstick lined smiles of the young ladies, and the gleeming white smiles of the young men!
