My job often gives me unique opportunities to travel all over this great state. Today was no exception as I was sent to Portland on a service call. When I arrived at the customer site, there was little standing water on Water Street (ironic name, huh) and I proceeded to start my service work.
The video you are viewing shows what happened in less than 45 minutes of my arrival. I was advised to travel down water street as my possible only means of escape from the rising flood waters. Otherwise, I would be spending the night in Portland.
The video is of me traveling on Water street, and beginning to make my way to State Road 67 so I might get back to US27. That would allow me to make my way back to the Fort.
Once out of the downtown area, there was very little flooding and mostly ponding water in fields next to the roadways. The park by Wal-Mart, however, was mostly under water. But, the travel from Portland to Fort Wayne was just as usual, just another day.
I would recommend to anyone, after this event, to NOT drive through water like I did in the video. It was very dangerous and I would not do it again myself. Staying a night or 2 in Portland wouldn't have been the end of the world, heck you couldn't even see it from there. But not being there for my kids.....
