Give mom a gift that could save her life this Mother’s Day.
Heart disease continues to be the No. 1 health threat facing moms and all women in America. Hoosier sons and daughters are encouraged to open the conversation with their moms about their heart health and encourage them to take two simple steps that can help them live longer, healthier lives.
Step one: Find out how healthy you are with the American Heart Association’s new health assessment tool, called My Life Check, at www.heart.org/mylifecheck. It will give you an overall health score and create an action plan to move you closer to your individual health goals. No matter what you score, any healthy change can help you live a longer, better life.
Step two: Sign up for the Go Red for Women movement at www.GoRedForWomen.org or call 1-800-AHA-USA1. Women who join the movement learn that small everyday choices like exercise, nutrition, and stress can make a big impact on health and life. Ninety-six percent of women who have joined the movement have made some sort of change to improve their cardiovascular health. Participants receive all the free tools they need to improve their cardiovascular health including unlimited online resources, a monthly e-mail newsletter, free recipes, a red dress pin, and more.
Also consider participating in two Mother’s Day social media campaigns that are raising money for the American Heart Association:
Send a Mother's Day card while supporting Go Red! Send a Mother's Day card from Macy's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Macys through May 8 and select Go Red For Women as your charity. Macy's will donate $5 for each card created, up to $400,000! Send a card to every important woman in your life!
HH Gregg is honoring moms everywhere by donating $1 to the American Heart Association for every new Facebook Like they get through May 5, so make yours count. Like them at www.facebook.com/hhgregg and you can also view heart healthy tips, take the American Heart Association’s My Life Check assessment, and win prizes.
