Businesses Urged To Turn Red in February

What if saving a woman’s life was as easy as hanging red lights outside of your place of business?

Helping women recognize their No. 1 health risk – heart disease – is a primary goal of the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women campaign. The facts are clear. More women die of heart disease than all forms of cancer combined. Unfortunately, the killer isn’t as easy to see. Heart disease is often silent, hidden and misunderstood.

The American Heart Association is asking businesses in Allen County and across the country to Make It Their Mission to fight heart disease by going RED on Wear Red Day (Feb. 3) or anytime in February, which is American Heart Month. Businesses going red will join the ranks of Niagara Falls, the Empire State Building, Times Square and many other landmarks and prominent business.

Businesses can Go Red in many ways, such as: lighting up with red holiday or flood lights; producing and hanging a Go Red For Women banner at the entrance; tying red ribbons on the trees throughout the property; displaying actual red dresses in their lobby; creating a Go Red For Women display in store fronts; or placing Go Red For Women decals on doors and windows (decals available from the American Heart Association).

Businesses going red will receive several benefits from the American Heart Association, including:
• Inclusion in the American Heart Association’s local and national publicity efforts showcasing participating buildings
• Recognition on the American Heart Association local website at www.Heart.org/FortWayne
• Recognition on the American Heart Association’s local Facebook page
• Identification with the American Heart Association, the nation’s premiere health research, advocacy and educational organization dealing with cardiovascular disease
For additional ideas and to let the American Heart Association know that your building is going red, businesses are asked to contact Wendy King at 317-732-4706 or wendy.king@heart.org.
