HJCL had their knowledge put to the test during a certamen tournament, a game similar to Jeopardy, at Notre Dame University, February 18.
The club came with five teams: two in novice, one in intermediate, two in advance. Competing with schools all around the state, HHS pulled in top three placings for each level. Results are as listed:
HHS Novice I- 2nd Place. HHS Novice II- 5th Place.
HHS Intermediate I- 2nd Place.
HHS Advance I- 2nd Place. HHS Advance II- 3rd Place.
Certamen is played with buzzers. When the player knows the answer, he/she buzzes in. Common subjects in the game are mythology, vocabulary, culture, grammar, etc. Certamen is divided into three levels- novice, intermediate, upper. The entire game consists of three rounds as well as a final championship match.
In every round, a total of 15 questions are asked. Each question answered correctly will be followed up some two bonus questions. Certamen is played as teams, and each team may have up to four.
Congratulations to all HJCL players!
