A new state-of-the-art interactive CPR mobile unit will be in Indianapolis June 27-29 as part of a nationwide tour, training thousands of people in Hands-Only CPR.
The nationwide tour kicked off June 5 in New York City and will visit more than 20 cities over three years. The tour will conclude in Fort Wayne, Ind., in September 2014.
Certified trainers will instruct more than 1,000 people in each city in Hands-Only CPR. The 15-minute training sessions are free, and all participants will receive a free CPR Anytime Kit to take home.
The American Heart Association public training event uses the Bee Gees’ hit “Stayin’ Alive” to teach lifesaving Hands-Only CPR (no breaths, just chest compressions). The song has more than 100 beats per minute, the rate at which you should push on the chest during CPR.
The 15-minute training sessions are free to the public. Advance registration is recommended at www.heart.org/Indianapolis.

Nearly 400,000 Americans suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrests every year, and almost 90 percent die because they don’t receive immediate CPR from someone on the scene. If started immediately, Hands-Only CPR can double or triple a person’s chances of survival. An educational grant from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation supports the American Heart Association’s Hands-Only CPR campaign.
