Lizard on the front sidewalk

The first lizard I've seen in Indiana

This lizard was sitting on my front sidewalk, about 10 feet from my front door, in the Sutter's Cove addition on the north side. This is the first time I have seen it and was wondering if anyone could identify it.

I'm not sure where it lives but thought that it may have been flooded out of its home from all of the melting snow and rain.

Just found one in my basement window pit... I was cleaning out the frogs that fall down there all the time and reached in and saw this lizard looking at me sideways. Scared the bajezus out of me. Not really, I was only a little bit startled.

Leslie is correct, it is a salamander. They are actually quite abundant around our parts. They tend to like dark moist places. Usually in the woods under rocks and dead logs. Sometimes you can find them in your flower beds too though.

If lizards are everywhere, I must not look down very much. I've actually never seen anything like that in Indiana either.
