I created this video, to help raise awareness about Perthes, and its symptoms. Perthes is a rare hip condition in children, ages 2-17. it is caused from an unknown lack of bloodflow to the hip, causeing the hip ball to break down. Often to nothing, but a hollow circle, surrounded by cartiledge. Usually, children, have enough cartiledge, to keep its shape, and eventually the ball will grow back, to a hopeful round shape. The Symptoms of perthes can be very misleading. It causes, thigh, or groin pain, or behind the knee pain, and ofthen a limp, that comes and goes. As active as children are in sports these days, its easy to think a child has just had a hard day at soccer. But a simple x-ray, of the hips can usually show, the ball starting to disapear. ROM tests, can be done, to check the Range of Motion of the legs, this changes as well. Treatments very, there is No cure for perthes, only treatments, to minimize, the effects, and assist with pain relief. Pain verys as well, somedays, these kids can hardly get out of bed, other days, they have to fight themselves to not run and jump. Treatments are often daily physical therapy, activity restrictions (to be gentle to the fragile cartiledge), leg braces, leg casts, fixators, many surgeries very. There is now a foundation, to help raise money for research, and to go to families, whom need to travel to a specialists, or need assistance with getting medical equipment. The Earl Cole Legg Calve Perthes Fund, is where money can be sent, to help!! Please remember, and spread the word of perthes symptoms. Early diagnosis, is critical, to proper healing.
