Fort Wayne, IN April 25, 2008 – Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne hosted its first Bravo Breakfast for the Arts this morning at the Arts United Center. Leaders from the community, corporate supporters and arts advocates gathered to celebrate the arts. Mayor Tom Henry, County Commissioner Nelson Peters, Marla Schneider from The Alliance and Katy Sillman from Northeast Indiana Regional Partners provided insight and discussion regarding the economic impact the arts make in our community.
“The first breakfast was a success,” said Executive Director Jim Sparrow. “We were able to bring together a number of different people and organizations that are interested in the arts in a setting that allowed us to thank our supporters and to discuss our future.“
Following the discussion, the 2008 Artie Awards were presented to outstanding people and organizations making exceptional contributions to the arts and cultural community in northeast Indiana. Award winners included: Outstanding Arts Educator – Eunice Wadewitz (Fort Wayne Civic Theatre), Outstanding Arts Volunteer of the Year – Diane Humphrey, Outstanding Arts Corporate Supporter – Sweetwater Sound, Outstanding Arts Partner – Northeast Indiana Public Radio, Outstanding Arts Advocate – Jeanne Mirro (Indiana Arts Commission), and Lifetime Achievement – Edvard Tchivzhel (Fort Wayne Philharmonic).
“We hope this becomes an annual event, and are looking forward to bringing the arts to the table again, in the future,“ noted Sparrow.
