On May 17, and 18, Emery Mcclendon was in Dayton, Ohio to be presented the Amateur Radio "Special Acheivement Award." This award is one of three given at the event from nominations worldwide.
The Dayton Hamvention Awards are considered the Oscar's of Amateur Radio.
There was a very nice dinner ceremony on Saturday night at the Downtown Dayton Marriott, which included the Mayor of Troutwood, Ohio; the host city of this event, and distinguished members of the Hamvention committee, and other invited guests.
On Sunday afternoon the winners were introduced in the general Hamvention arena and allowed to give a short speech.
This event is the largest in the world of it's kind, and draws a crown of about 20,000.
The "Special Acheivement Award" was presented to Emery mcclendon for starting Amateur Radio Military Appreciation Day (ARMAD).
ARMAD is an event held in communities worldwide that allows the public to show support to our Troops, and Veterans live over Amateur Radio. Many of the events also include entertainment, cookouts, and other activities.
ARMAD will be held in Fort Wayne on May 24, 2008 at Georgetown Square in front of Liberty Tax Service. ARMAD will include bands, speakers, prizes, and gifts to our military members and the public.
The Saint Vincent Scouts will participate in this event, along with members of the military, and The Indianapolis Colts In Motion.
