The Northern Flicker is one of the few birds in the woodpecker family to migrate. The Audubon Guide says "flickers are the only woodpeckers that frequently feed on the ground". This is an unfamiliar site for me here in Hicksville. I feel lucky to have a bird such as this living in my back yard...By the way, please forgive my yard. Due to the rain, I haven't been able to mow!!! :) Happy Fourth!
