The Three Rivers Gem & Mineral Society is planning a bus trip on Nov. 15 to the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary art. This will be a special day at the Museum where members of the West Suburban Lapidary Club will teach about cabochon cutting, silversmithing, wirewrapping, beading and carving. Children can participate in making a rock critter or creating a gemstone picture frame. It will be a great way to learn more about various lapidary art forms. In addition to this workshop, you will be able to enjoy a special exhibit by Gem artist, Ilya Schar. He has created vibrant compositions called "Gem Paintings" without the use of paint. Instead, he uses hundreds of different types of gems, ranging in size from a bean to a grain of sand to create 3-D pictures. And, of course, you can also view their regular fantastic galleries of jade carvings, lapidary works of art, and mineral displays. Their website is
www.lizzadromuseum.org. You can learn more about what you can see from this website.
If you are interested in this bus trip, the cost is $35 roundtrip for adults and $15 for children under 18. Non-members are very welcome. Checks are preferred. Money will be refunded only if the trip is cancelled or for death or serious illness. We are reserving a 55 passenger bus with Star of America. It will leave from Science Central at 7 am on Nov. 15 and return by about 9 pm.
The Museum charges $4 admission for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for students and teens, $1 for children 7-12, and free for children under 7. You will need to pack a lunch. We will provide donuts on the way and will stop for fast food on return. The bus will have a restroom.
