The stakes are high for the 14th annual Battle for Blood. The Fort Wayne Fire Department and Three Rivers Ambulance Authority came out on top in last year’s competition against the Fort Wayne Police Department and Allen County Sheriff’s Department. This year, first responders will compete for donor votes and to receive 100 American Red Cross teddy bears to give to children.
All presenting donors will receive an American Red Cross long-sleeve t-shirt and will be entered into a regional winter drawing for a trip of their choice worth $2,000. Pizza Hut pizza and Tom’s donuts will be served.
In addition to the fun, prizes and food, the Battle for Blood gives community members an opportunity to help save lives at a crucial time of year for blood collection. While many are busy with holiday preparations and travel, blood donations can often fall off of the “to do” list. By giving about an hour of your time, you can help save up to three lives.
The 2008 Battle for Blood is sponsored by Indiana’s NewsCenter, WBCL, and Pizza Hut.
