After the winter storm this past week, we had lost power for 3 days. Our front and back yards were both literally covered in tree limbs and branches. With Christmas knocking on the door, it was almost depressing to have all of this happening at once. Our first day back home with power, we had three beautiful cardinals playing in the brush that had fallen on the ground in the back yard. While taking pictures of them, I realized what a unique and beautiful bird they are to stay in such a cold place and still be happy and playing. I now see why they are the chosen bird for our state. While many other birds leave the area when the wather turns cold--these beautiful birds make the most of what Indiana offers during the winter.
