Operation Foundation is a faith based volunteer effort designed to address not only the physical needs of the community, but also the cultural and spiritual needs as well. It is a week long cleanup and restoration project focused primarily on the downtown and surrounding residential areas.
In 2007, we had 242 volunteers donate over 3500 hours of their time. The second year of Operation Foundation in 2008 brought out 384 volunteers performing 5900 hours of work. With a population of about 4500 people, this was a major undertaking, and an overwhelming success.
An operating budget of just under $8,000.00 yielded over $250,000.00 worth of work within the city. Four burned out homes and a long row of storage buildings from an old lumber yard were demolished at no cost to the city or tax payers. This alone saved the city $75,000.00. Homes were painted and the struggling downtown buildings were cleaned, repaired and painted. The list goes on and on.
More information on this project can be found on our web site at www.OperationFoundation.com. All of our promotional videos are available for viewing at www.vimeo.com/cfoughtdesign/videos.
Because of this project, Ligonier became the first Good Works City in Indiana under the Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives. More information on this is available from Isaac Randolph Jr., Director of the OFBCI.
Please consider being a part of Operation Foundation 2009 as we seek to continue the tremendous transformation that is taking place in Ligonier, Indiana. Both spiritually and physically.
This year's dates have been set for July 22nd - July 29th, 2009
