EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY HOSTS BANDS OF AMERICA REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY OCT. 10; TICKET DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE
Northern Indiana will be well represented as approximately 20 bands from throughout Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Illinois compete in one of the nation’s most prominent marching band championships, the Bands of America Regional Championship, presented by Yamaha, at Eastern Michigan University’s Rynearson Stadium, Ypsilanti, Michigan, on Saturday, October 10. The Eastern Michigan University Band, which will also perform in special exhibition, hosts the championship.
Dekalb High School, Angola High School, Goshen High School, and Elkhart Memorial High School will all compete in preliminary competition Saturday morning and afternoon, evaluated by a panel of nationally known music educators and marching band experts. The top 10 scoring bands will advance to the evening finals competition, where the Regional Champion will be named. Preliminary performances start at 10:15 a.m., with the presentation of awards at 4:45 p.m. Gates open for finals at 6:45 p.m. (Another northern Indiana band, East Noble High School, will compete in the Indianapolis BOA Regional Championships Nov. 7.)
Because Music for All knows times are tough and believes that entire families should be able to enjoy this event, new discounts are available on the day of the event. All children ages 10 and under are free for general admission seats, and youth 11-18 years old and college students can attend the prelim or finals for $9 each or $15 for a day pass including both. Seniors 62 and over get $4 off the applicable adult ticket price, and active duty military members and their spouses can attend the prelim or finals for $9 each or $15 for a day pass including both (military ID required). Standard general admission prices are $19 for prelims or finals, or a $30 for both. These additional ticket discounts
are available only on the day of the event at the ticketing window. An advance-purchase ticket option of buy two full-price tickets and receive one free is available until Sept. 25 by calling 800-848-BAND (2263).
