Meeting Mike Reno

Meeting Mike Reno

It had been 25 years since the "Get Lucky" album.I was at a local club (Pierres) in Fort Wayne to watch Loverboy in concert. I had seen Loverboy on New Year's Eve in Indianapolis, so I had met the band before. They played,"Turn Me Loose" on the midnight hour.
Loverboy is one of those 80s groups that had most all of their songs in the top 10 and then they just got off the scene when the 1990s came around. Leave on top is the best way to keep the fans satisfied.
When I was in my Junior year (1986) in High School I had went to the prom, the theme of the night was from Loverboy's hit song,"This could be the night". I remember hearing Mike Reno's distictive voice over the speakers as I was slow dancing under the lights with a Jewish girl I knew since Junior High that lived over a few streets from me. Before the song started she had taken some of the decorations off the wall before the song and made me a paper style tie and said now we can dance with style.
After the concert I was hanging out with the band. They were glad to see me so I asked the drummer and guitarist how the tour was going. I heard the sad story about the boating accident of Scott Smith (Bass Player) that took his life. from Matt Frenette and that the band still feels hurt inside over it.
Mike Reno came up to me and asked how I liked the show. I told him that everyone did a great show and that he still had the voice.(To hear Mike sing,"It's Over, It's Over, It's Ooooover!' just really brings back memories of my teen years.)
I told him that my prom night was based on his song. His eyes got big and he smiled and said,"Really, that is something, great!" We got this photo before I left. Loverboy is still touring and I hope others get to hear their songs and their music for another 25 years. I hope you get lucky enough to meet them as well. Keep your fingers crossed and wear those red pants.

Would love to know how Reno keeps his voice. Guy has a killer whistle/falsetto register.
