Derby Girls raise $2,000 for burn camp

Fort Wayne Derby Girls Present $2,000 Check to Hoosier Burn Camp

Fort Wayne, Indiana (March 18, 2010) The hard hitting, charity driven Fort Wayne Derby Girls and the Fort Wayne Derby Brats will present a check for $2,000 to the Hoosier Burn Camp on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 8pm at Bell’s Skating Rink. The money was raised at the charity bout held on Sunday, February 28, at Bell’s Skating Rink.

About Fort Wayne Derby Girls Inc.

Fort Wayne is at the pinnacle of Indiana’s roller derby resurgence. Since October 2005, the Fort Wayne Derby Girls, a non-profit, volunteer-run organization, has raised $47,000 for local women’s and children’s charities. Charities benefiting from its efforts include: SCAN, Erin’s House, Charis House, Sexual Assault Treatment Center, Hoosier Burn Camp, Great Lakes Burn Camp, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity- Women Build, Easter Seals ARC, Turnstone Center for Disabled Children, Victim’s Assistance Program, Make A Wish Foundation, Ft Wayne Women’s Bureau and Crossroad Children’s Home. The charity based sports league competes both locally and nationally. Its current home season runs from January through April with bouts held at the Coliseum. Fort Wayne Derby Brats, a division of The Fort Wayne Derby Girls, promotes fun, self-expression, self-confidence and stewardship for girls between the ages of 10 and 17 in the Summit City and surrounding communities through the sport of roller derby and other community activities. The league embodies the strength, courage, and vitality of our area’s youth and serves as an athletic outlet for young females in our community.
