On Saturday morning about 0315 I hit the road and drove up to Clarkston, Michigan to The Americans For Prosperity "Defending The American Dream Conference." Earlier in the week I had been sent an invitation by email from Erik Telford, of AFP inviting me to the conference as a special guest. I could not pass that one up. I arrived at beautiful Mt. Zion Church around 0730.
The conference was scheduled to begin at 0900. There was also a breakfast and picture with Governor Palin session at 0800.
Upon arrival I was greeted with smiles from everyone waiting in line to enter, and by the Fox News crew already set up in the parking lot next to my car. I walked up to the entrance and asked if I was at the right door for general admission, and I was surprised at the response that the security people and volunteers gave me. They thanked me for being there and allowed me to enter before the doors were opened after I told them that I had drove up from Indiana to be there. I walked in and was greeted by Erik and given my ID badge and media credentials.
I was also given a quick tour of the auditorium. I then returned to my car and escorted my wife inside. After we arrived inside and found our seats, I received a call on the phone from Pam Rietch of Mchigan AFP. She told me that I was invited to the breakfast and that I would also be taking a picture with Governor Palin. I wasted no time finding the room where the breakfast was being held. The food was great, and the people were very friendly.
After about 30 minutes a lady came out and gave us instructions for our short visit with the Governor, and our photo. We were escorted to the area and I had the opportunity to meet The Governor, and her husband. As I walked up to her she approached me and reached out for my hand as she said "I love your shirt." I was wearing a polo shirt with a U.S. Army patch on the front. I then greeted her and presented her and her husband with two Amateur Radio Military Appreciation Day T-Shirts. http://www.armad.net
On the way out, I stopped and shook hands with Todd Palin, and gave him words of appreciation for their son that is serving in the U.S. Army. I can't wait to receive my photo in the mail.
Then it was back off to the Main Sanctuary for the general session.
Speakers included Governor Sarah Palin, Nolan Finley of Detroit News, Michigan Supreme Court Justice Robert Young, Tim Phillips of Americans For Prosperity, Phil Kerpen Of Americans For Prosperity, and Scott Hagerstorm Michigan Director of Americans For Prosperity.
After the general session we had a break for lunch, and returned for break out sessions until 3:00 P.M. There was a Michigan Gubernatorial Candidate Forum from 3:30 P.M. - 5:00 P.M.
All of the speakers were fired up and very informational. Governor Palin spoke for over 30 minutes, and took the time to sign books and shake hands after her speech.
I want to thank AFP for inviting me to this event, and for planning such events throughout the country.
